The case for localised transformation
As they continue their migration to the cloud, CSPs are modernising and simplifying their back-office operations to meet the escalating demands of the digital age. The need for enhanced capabilities, from intent-based network management to generative AI and effective monetisation strategies for substantial investments like 5G, has never been more urgent. Yet, the path is far from smooth. CSPs must navigate a series of obstacles including hefty capital expenditures on network infrastructure, regulatory limitations, a backlog of technical debt, and a talent shortage in the sector. To shed light on these complexities, TM Forum’s Digital Transformation Tracker conducts extensive surveys among CSPs and their suppliers, offering invaluable insights into the industry’s overall progress in digital transformation.
Brian Cappellani, Vice President of Technology Strategy at Hansen, joined the 7th edition of TM Forum’s Digital Transformation Tracker webinar series. During the discussion, Brian makes a case for a more targeted approach to BSS transformation for CSPs. He argues that, rather than pursuing a full-scale BSS reset, CSPs should identify which modules and capabilities truly need upgrading to cloud-native standards and which can remain in their existing state for the interim. Adopting this more nuanced approach could expedite a CSP’s transition to cloud-native systems.
