5 Minute Settlements Are On The Way
The Australian energy market is undergoing significant change driven, in part, by the move to renewable energy sources and advancement in technology. Starting in late 2021, an AEMO (the Australian Energy Market Operator) rule change has reduced the electricity spot price and settlement period from 30 minutes to 5 minutes. This rule update is also driving a change in the way global wholesale settlements occur between AEMO and the retailers. Retailers will now be charged according to their metered energy consumption rather than on calculated balances.
